Looking to clinch back-to-back victories late on Wednesday night, Argentinos Juniors will welcome Central Cordoba to the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Argentinos Juniors
Starting with the hosts, while Argentinos Juniors might have been left frustrated earlier in the month as they opened June with a 1-0 defeat away at Belgrano, Pablo Guede’s men claimed an immediate response last time out. Snatching a last-gasp 1-0 victory against Atletico Rafaela last week as they extended on their Copa Argentina adventure, El Bicho have won three of their previous four appearances across all competitions. Springing an upset on May 25th as they secured a 1-0 victory against Argentinian giants River Plate, the former Malaga boss will be excited by his side’s extended success on home soil. Including an action-packed 3-2 win against Rosario last month, Argentinos Juniors have won all of their previous four straight showdowns at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona by an aggregate score of 7-3.
Team News
Away representing Argentina’s U23s during this month’s international fixtures, Argentinos Juniors will be unable to call upon Luciano Gondou on Wednesday night. Both yet to make a single appearance across any competition since opening up the 2024 campaign, Guede’s side are also without the duo of Luciano Sanchez and 24-year-old midfielder Alan Rodriguez.
Although Gaston Veron might have missed all of Argentinos’ last three appearances, Wednesday’s hosts remain hopeful that the 23-year-old will be able to play some part here.
Central Cordoba
As for the visitors, spending the majority of last season battling it out at the foot of the Primera Division table, Central Cordoba appear destined for another domestic struggle this time around. Last seen putting in another downbeat performance as they slumped to a 4-2 defeat at home against Talleres, Lucas Gonzalez’s men have lost all of their first four top-flight appearances and they have continued to show a string of glaring issues. Along with getting hit with another 4-2 loss against Boca Juniors last month, Wednesday’s guests have shipped 13 goals on their four-match losing run. Likewise, including a 5-0 drumming at the hands of Estudiantes on April 6th, it should also be highlighted, Central Cordoba have lost all of their last three showdowns away from the Alfredo Terrera by an aggregate score of 10-1.
Team News
Yet to make a single appearance across any competition since opening up the 2024 campaign, Central Cordoba will once again be unable to call upon 18-year-old starlet Matias Gomez here. Coming off the bench and making an impact last week, academy graduate Gustavo Albarracin could make a first start of the season.
Making a senior international debut for Chile last year and recording three goals across all formats so far this season, 23-year-old Bruno Barticciotto will certainly have a leading role to play on Wednesday night.
